Coldwell Wind Energy Project

Coldwell Wind Farm is a joint project between the Pic River First Nation and Brookfield Power, located approximately 20 km northwest of Marathon, Ontario at the former site of Town of Coldwell. Wind resource data collection at the site has been ongoing since 2002 and shows extremely favorable wind power potential. 66 wind turbine generators, each with a generating capacity of 1.5 MW, will help diversify Ontario's electricity supply and deliver between 274 and 308 GWh on an annual basis to the grid. The benefits of the site have been recognized by the Ontario Power Authority's Supply Mix report, which notes that "…wind energy [both at the site and elsewhere in the Province] is considered to be pollution free and infinitely sustainable". It will also provide valuable economic benefits to local communities while creating significant tax revenue and affordably priced generation for provincial consumers.
